For 17 years, the esteemed Yeşilköy Balıkçısı has been welcoming its regular clientele in Yeşilköy. Recently, we joined gastronomic writers at a press conference in Sortie to experience the restaurant’s signature flavors. As you step into the spacious venue located on Sortie’s right-hand side, the gentle breeze and the impressive Bosphorus view immediately capture your attention and whet your appetite.
With the fish season now in full swing, the variety offered is extensive. Rather than making a personal selection, I decided to rely on the chef’s recommendations.
At this venue, which embraces a “from sea to table” concept, fresh fish are sourced daily and are complemented by classic mezes, seafood entrees, and chef-inspired signature dishes.
In recent years, the range of mezes has grown and evolved with innovative twists, making them not just samples but truly filling dishes. Naturally, the challenging economic conditions have influenced this trend. The irresistible mezes and appetizers leave little room for fish, and the high-priced seafood is no longer the main attraction.
Among the mezes, dishes such as fish stew, zucchini stew, acıyaki, artichoke with rosemary, Datça beans, and fava stand out. In my opinion, the Datça beans slow-cooked with plenty of tomatoes and raw almonds, along with the fava served with caramelized onions, are the stars of the table.
For the fish course, the grilled sea bass prepared with a unique technique is exceptional. Here, the natural taste of the fish is showcased without being masked by overwhelming sauces.

The owner, Selim Ataacar, explains at the start of our conversation, “Guests of Yeşilköy Balıkçısı choose us because our venue provides a sense of security, the comfort of home, and a genuinely enjoyable atmosphere.”
“It was always my dream to bring this comfort to the Bosphorus, and now that dream has come true. We are now focused on ensuring its long-term success and on opening our third branch,” he continued.
In many venues across Istanbul, the focus is often on the view while the food takes a back seat. Here, however, the situation is reversed. Both the service and the kitchen work with equal passion. From the waitstaff to the chefs, everyone performs their role with meticulous care. Thus, a visit here offers not just a meal, but an entire curated experience.

REVAMPED CLASSIC FLAVORS
To sum up, the Yeşilköy Balıkçısı at Sortie impressed me with its stunning view and a menu that skillfully reinterprets traditional seafood offerings with a modern twist. I found the prices to be quite reasonable compared to other fish restaurants along the Bosphorus. Later in the evening, as the DJ begins his performance in the center of Sortie, sitting at a table overlooking the Bosphorus reminds you that the seafood culture remains vibrant – only now it has been updated to reflect contemporary tastes.
